A traffic police head constable was killed in a hit-and-run at Delhi’s Singhu border on Wednesday evening. While on duty he was hit by a speeding vehicle. Police have arrested two accused Kuldeep and Neeraj in the case and seized the vehicle.

New Delhi [भारत]July 16 (ANI): A head constable of Delhi Traffic Police, handling traffic at Singhu border, died in a tragic hit-and-run incident on Wednesday evening. Immediately after the collision, the driver of the speeding vehicle fled from the spot, after which the police immediately started investigation and quickly arrested two suspects. The deceased officer has been identified as Head Constable Amit, who was on duty at the time of the tragedy.

This fatal accident happened during peak traffic hours on Wednesday evening. According to official statements of Delhi Police, Head Constable Amit was controlling the heavy movement of vehicles at this important border junction when he was suddenly hit.

What did Delhi Police say?

Delhi Police said in a statement, “Yesterday at around 1800 hours, Head Constable Amit Singhu was performing traffic duty at the border when he was hit by a speeding vehicle. He was immediately taken to SRHC (Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra Hospital). However, he was declared dead on arrival. The vehicle that hit him has been identified.”

After the collision, the vehicle sped away from the border checkpoint, leaving the injured officer lying on the road. Despite immediately taking him to the hospital, doctors confirmed that Amit had died before reaching the hospital.

Police took prompt action, two accused arrested

Following the hit-and-run, Alipore police station registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched an immediate search operation to nab the absconding suspects. Within hours, authorities located the vehicle and reportedly apprehended those responsible. Police have registered a case under sections 281 (negligent driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS).

Delhi Police released a formal update confirming the progress of the case: “FIR u/s 281, 106(1), BNS was registered at PS Alipore in connection with a hit-and-run incident. In this case, 2 accused, Kuldeep and Neeraj, have been arrested. The vehicle involved in the incident has been taken into custody for investigation. Further investigation and legal formalities are underway. The case has been registered to complete the investigation as per law. Has been kept on priority.”

There is an atmosphere of mourning in the Delhi Police Department due to the death of Head Constable Amit. Apart from taking strict legal action against the accused, senior officials also stressed that they are working together to help the officer’s bereaved family. Police further said, “Legal action and further investigation is underway. All necessary departmental formalities and assistance are being coordinated to the bereaved family. This case is being treated as a top priority so that the culprit is brought to justice at the earliest.” (ANI)
