There is good news for the investors of the country’s largest insurance company. For the first time this year, the company’s shares have crossed Rs 800. At the same time, its portfolio has also crossed Rs 80 thousand crores in 50 days. Similarly, if you have also invested money in LIC, then the returns in 50 days will blow your mind. In fact, LIC has earned an estimated profit of around Rs 80,000 crore in the last 50 trading sessions.

Double digit profits

Investors have directly benefited from LIC’s portfolio. Around 110 stocks in LIC’s portfolio have given double digit returns during the 50-day trading session, including microcap stock Gokak Textiles which has given 204% returns. Rest of the Q3 performers include Industrial Investment Trust, Orient Green Power Company, Adani Total Gas, BSE, Spencer’s Retail, The New India Assurance Company, Swan Energy and Power Finance Corporation. Along with LIC, investors have also made bumper earnings in 50 days.

While LIC has hundreds of stocks in its equity portfolio, details are available only on 260 stocks in which PSUs hold at least 1% stake. In this, those counters have been excluded which are not currently traded on the exchanges. So far in this quarter, Nifty has increased by 6.5% while LIC’s portfolio has increased by 7.36%.

Top stocks of LIC portfolio

In terms of its market cap, Reliance Industries is LIC’s biggest bet on Dalal Street. LIC’s 6.27% stake in RIL is now worth around Rs 1 lakh crore.

Other big bets include ITC (Rs 86,000 crore), TCS (Rs 64,000 crore), HDFC Bank (Rs 54,000 crore), L&T (Rs 51,000 crore), Infosys (Rs 51,000 crore), SBI (Rs 48,000 crore), ICICI Bank ( 42,000 crore), IDBI Bank (Rs 35,000 crore) and Axis Bank (Rs 28,000 crore).

What should investors do?

With the market at its record high and retail boom in small and midcap stocks, market experts are suggesting investors to reduce expectations in the near term.
