Hatchback Sales July 2026 – WagonR, Swift, Baleno, Alto, Tiago, i20, Glanza, i10, Altroz

After taking a look at the   and  , let us now take a look at the hatchback segment. India’s hatchback segment registered a strong performance in July 2026, with combined sales of 1,07,602 units. This was a significant improvement over 74,475 units sold in July 2025, resulting in 44.48% YoY growth. Compared to June 2026 sales of 79,419 units, volumes increased by 35.49% MoM.

Maruti WagonR was India’s best-selling hatchback in July 2026 with 23,338 units, up 58.65% YoY from 14,710 units. This translated to a volume gain of 8,628 units, the highest absolute YoY increase among the hatchbacks on the list. Maruti Swift was close behind with 21,538 units, registering 51.78% YoY growth from 14,190 units. MoM sales increased 41.56% from 15,215 units. Swift held a 20.02% market share.

Baleno ranked third with 18,241 units, up 45.89% YoY from 12,503 units. Compared to June’s 12,488 units, Baleno sales increased 46.07%. Maruti Alto recorded one of the strongest performances among the segment’s volume sellers. Sales increased from 5,910 units in July 2025 to 12,534 units in July 2026, representing 112.08% YoY growth. Together, WagonR, Swift, Baleno and Alto generated 75,651 units, giving Maruti’s top four hatchbacks a combined share of more than 70% of the segment.

Tata Tiago / Tiago EV ranked fifth with 7,429 units, up 33.26% YoY from 5,575 units. Its MoM performance was relatively flat, increasing 1.36% from 7,329 units. Hyundai i20 climbed to sixth position with 6,738 units, compared to 3,396 units a year earlier. Sales increased 98.41% YoY, adding 3,342 units.

Toyota Glanza followed with 4,461 units. While sales increased 27.02% MoM, they declined 11.12% YoY from 5,019 units. Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS registered 4,055 units, up 13.90% YoY but down 16.65% MoM. Maruti Celerio emerged as another strong YoY performer, with sales increasing 181.18% from 1,392 units to 3,914 units. MoM growth was also substantial at 210.39%, compared to 1,261 units in June.

Tata Altroz was next with 2,862 units. Sales improved 17.97% MoM but declined 26.71% YoY from 3,905 units. MG Comet EV registered 1,116 units, up 22.37% YoY and 30.22% MoM. Citroen C3 followed with 680 units, recording the highest percentage YoY growth among models that registered sales in both periods, at 279.89%. However, C3 sales declined 3.82% MoM.

Renault Kwid sales stood at 516 units, up 94.72% YoY and 4.88% MoM. At the lower end of the chart, Maruti S-Presso registered just 100 units in July. This represented an 89.04% YoY decline from 912 units and a 90.27% MoM fall from 1,028 units. Citroen eC3 EV registered 80 units, increasing 14.29% YoY and 12.68% MoM. Maruti Ignis has been discontinued.

Maruti Commands 74% Share

OEM-wise, Maruti Suzuki remained the undisputed leader, selling 79,665 hatchbacks in July 2026, up 54.41% YoY from 51,594 units. With WagonR, Swift, Baleno and Alto occupying the top four positions, Maruti alone commanded around 74% of the hatchback segment. Hyundai ranked second with 10,793 units, registering an even stronger 55.16% YoY growth, helped primarily by the sharp improvement in i20 sales. Tata Motors followed closely with 10,291 units, although its YoY growth was comparatively modest at 8.55%.

Among the remaining manufacturers, Toyota was the only OEM to report a YoY decline, with Glanza sales falling 11.12% to 4,461 units. MG registered 22.37% growth with Comet EV, while Renault’s Kwid nearly doubled its volumes with 94.72% growth. Citroen recorded the highest percentage growth at 205.22%, although this came from a relatively small base, with combined C3 and eC3 sales reaching 760 units.
