Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar reunited on screen after 10 years for Priyadarshan’s film Haiwaan. The movie arrived in theatres on September 11. The film is a Hindi remake of the Malayalam thriller Oppam. As Haiwaan wraps up its first weekend in theatres, here’s a look at how the film has performed at the box office so far.
How much did Haiwaan collect on day 3?
After a lukewarm opening and earning Rs 3 crore, Haiwaan tried it best to gain momentum at the box office. However, Haiwaan day 2 box office collection stood at Rs 2.5 crore. Now, as per Sacnilk, the haul on its first Sunday stands at Rs 1.85 crore. With this, the India net collection of Haiwaan stands at Rs 7.35 crore.
Priyadarshan opens up about directing Haiwaan
In an interview with news agency PTI, Priyadarshan said, “I’ve seen a lot of these Tamil and Telugu remakes being made here and it looks exactly like those films and not like a Hindi film. So, that’s one lesson that I learned and I try to change the complete look of the film. I never make it the same way, and I always try to improvise and make it look like it is made for the North audience.”
He added, “My idea was not at all to have him (in this film) as I was looking for someone else. I casually mentioned it to him (Akshay) when he asked me about my next film. I told him that many actors had turned it down and to my shock, Akshay said, ‘I will do this role’. When I was working with Saif, I just thought, ‘I’m making a new film.’ It was something new for me because it is away from what I have been trying before and I’m seeing Akshay differently. I got excited about it.”
About Haiwaan
In Haiwaan, Saif Ali Khan plays a visually impaired man, while Akshay Kumar takes on the role of the antagonist, portraying a cold-hearted psychopathic killer. For Priyadarshan, revisiting Oppam after several years was also an opportunity to revisit and rework his own material.
