A woman died after drinking suspicious substance in Gwalior. The family has accused the in-laws of harassing her for dowry and murdering her by giving her acid. The police have registered a case of dowry death against the husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law and started investigation.

After this incident, the police have registered a case of dowry death against the woman’s husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law in Thatipur police station of the district. According to the police, the deceased, identified as Nisha Rathore, was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition on June 22 and died two days later on June 24. Her family alleged that Nisha was constantly harassed by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands. The family has also accused the husband of assaulting her and forcing her to drink acid.

Police gave information about the case

City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Manish Yadav said, “On June 24, the woman’s husband informed her family that Nisha Rathore had consumed a poisonous substance. Her family immediately tried to induce vomiting. Upon the arrival of her brother, her husband and brother-in-law took her to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that she had consumed poison and referred her to another hospital. Despite repeated efforts to save her, the doctors said she was in no condition to give a statement. They informed the police.” Gone.”

He further added, “Since she was a newlywed, a tehsildar and other officials reached the spot, but no statement could be recorded. Tragically, she died shortly afterwards. Her parents have alleged that her in-laws often demanded dowry, repeatedly sent her to her maternal home and beat her up. Frustrated with this behaviour, they claim, she committed suicide by consuming poison. The family also suspects that Her husband must have force-fed her this substance.”

An FIR has been registered in the case against three people including the woman’s husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law under sections 80, 85, 3 (5) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and the accused will be arrested soon. He said that further action will be taken based on the evidence revealed in the investigation. When asked by the woman’s parents about the allegations of physical assault by the husband, the officer said, “Investigation has revealed that the accused would often taunt and provoke the victim for dowry-related demands – especially a three-wheeler, a flour mill and a gold chain; these details are also included in the FIR. The case has been registered and further investigation will be conducted based on the evidence.”

The family of the deceased made serious allegations

According to the victim’s family, Nisha was married to Gajendra Rathore on May 2, 2022. She alleged that soon after the marriage, her in-laws started demanding additional dowry including a gold chain, a flour mill and a three-wheeler and would often harass and torture her over the demands.

Sunita, mother of the deceased Nisha Rathore, said, “My daughter had attended a wedding here on June 19. She was crying and telling me how her in-laws harass her, even though I had given enough dowry, they kept asking for more. They constantly harassed and harassed her, always demanding money or other things. She went to her in-laws and after that there was a fight at their house for 3 days and then they doused her with acid. He was married for almost 4 years, but he rarely spent his time at my house. He neglected them both. “

The mother of the deceased further said that her daughter should get justice and the culprits should be punished. Her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law harassed her a lot. Maan Singh Rathore, father of the deceased, said, “They used to harass my daughter continuously. They demanded a flour mill, a gold chain, a loading vehicle and Rs 2 lakh as dowry… I asked her to go to her in-laws’ house for the time being, saying that we will bring her back in a day or two… When we got the news, they had forced her to drink acid.
