Gurnoor Brar Reprimanded for Code of Conduct Breach
Indian fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has received a warning after violating level one of the ICC Code of Conduct during the opening ODI match against England held in Birmingham.
Brar was found to have contravened Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to ‘throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match.’
Incident and Sanction Details
Furthermore, Brar has been assigned one demerit point, marking his first offense within a 24-month timeframe, as stated on the ICC website.
The incident occurred during the eighth over of England’s innings when Brar, while fielding, threw the ball towards the batter in a manner deemed inappropriate and dangerous.
The pacer acknowledged his wrongdoing and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
The charges were brought forth by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, along with third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth official Russell Warren.
Level 1 Breach Penalties
Penalties for level 1 breaches include a minimum of an official reprimand, a maximum fine of 50% of a player’s match fee, and the assignment of one or two demerit points.
India has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series following a six-wicket victory over England, with Brar claiming two wickets for his team.
