When the identity of a state goes beyond its geography and starts being formed by its development model, then it becomes not just a state but an idea. The same idea came to the fore on the occasion of 66th ‘Gujarat Pride Day’, when Bhupendra Patel addressed the people of the state and the Gujarati community across the world and shared Gujarat’s achievements and vision for the future.
From History to Present: A Story of Struggle to Success
The Chief Minister in his message said that when Gujarat came into existence on May 1, 1960 by separating from the then Mumbai State, there were limitations in resources and many questions were raised. But the inspiration of great men, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Swami Dayanand Saraswati and Shyamji Krishna Verma and the continuous hard work of the people took Gujarat to new heights. He said that the pace of development in the last two decades has changed the face of the state, and today the world is carefully watching Gujarat’s development model.

Gujarat becomes ‘growth engine’ under Modi leadership
The Chief Minister specifically mentioned the leadership of Narendra Modi, saying that his vision has made Gujarat a “Global Gateway to the Future”. Initiatives like ‘Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit’ have created new opportunities for investment, industry and employment. He claimed that Gujarat today is among the states with the lowest unemployment rate in the country, which is an indication of its economic strength.
Big expansion in infrastructure and energy
Emphasizing on the expansion of basic facilities in the state, the Chief Minister said that:
- Power generation capacity has increased from 8,750 MW to approximately 53,000 MW
- Under ‘Jyotigram Yojana’, 24 hours electricity is available in villages.
- Gujarat has a distinct identity in the country with facilities like gas grid, water grid and electricity grid.
Surat will become a new economic center
Referring to future plans, the Chief Minister said that ‘Surat Economic Region Development Plan’ has been prepared for Surat and surrounding areas. Apart from this, work is going on on 6 new Regional Economic Master Plans for North Gujarat, Saurashtra and Central Gujarat.
Focus on green energy and hi-tech industry
The Chief Minister said that today is the era of green growth and Gujarat has already been a leader in this direction:
- Gujarat’s share in the country’s total renewable energy capacity is 15%.
- Solar rooftop in more than 3 lakh houses
- Sanand and Dholera emerging hubs for semiconductor industry
Along with this, the establishment of AI Center of Excellence in Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (GIFT City) is a big step towards making the state a technology hub.
Vision of 2047 and 2035: Roadmap to Developed Gujarat
The Chief Minister shared the roadmap for a developed Gujarat based on the principle of ‘Earning Well, Living Well’. They said that:
- Target to make Gujarat a model state by 2035
- Gujarat plays an important role in the vision of developed India by 2047
- Campaigns like ‘Catch the Rain’ and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ for environmental protection
Sports and global identity
He said that due to the efforts of Amit Shah and the Prime Minister, Gujarat has got the opportunity to host the Commonwealth Games, which aims to put the state on the global sports map. Referring to the landslide victory in the recent local body elections, the Chief Minister thanked the public and said that this support is a symbol of faith in the development policies.
