Banaskantha: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Banaskantha district of Gujarat. Police arrested one person and six others on Tuesday. It is alleged that the man had sold his own wife for Rs 50,000. After this the woman was raped and sexually assaulted several times. According to news agency PTI, this entire crime came to light when the police were investigating a missing report. The surprising thing is that this report was lodged by the husband himself at Palanpur West Police Station earlier this month.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jignesh Gamit said that the accused had approached the police on May 11. He had claimed that his wife had gone missing from Palanpur city. She said, “Within two days of filing the complaint, the husband himself disappeared. After this, his father lodged another missing report at Palanpur East police station. These incidents deepened our suspicion during the investigation.”

These incidents made the investigating officers suspicious. Later the police traced the husband and also found the woman. In her official statement, the woman allegedly told the entire story of trafficking, sexual violence and exploitation. During initial investigation, the police found out that the husband had sold his wife to his friends for Rs 50,000.

According to Gambit, the victim told the police that the accused repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted her. She also alleged that they forcefully took away her jewelery and sold it to local jewellers. Officials confirmed that based on the victim’s statement, police registered a case at Palanpur West police station under sections related to rape, human trafficking, criminal conspiracy and other serious crimes. After this, seven accused including the husband were arrested.

The officer said, “He has been involved in cases of luring girls away despite being married. The police are also investigating his past crimes.”
