According to a press release issued by the Gujarat CMO, the decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar. Sharing details, Gujarat government spokesperson and minister Jitubhai Vaghani said that this procurement campaign has been launched in the interests of farmers so that they can get remunerative prices for their produce.

MSP and reason for purchase

Vaghani said the Government of India has fixed the MSP of summer moong at Rs 8,768 per quintal for the 2025-26 marketing season. He said that summer moong crop is procured in Gujarat under the price support scheme of PM-ASHA scheme to protect the farmers from financial loss whenever the market prices fall below the MSP.

Registered Farmers and Procurement Center

According to the minister, a total of 14,383 farmers from across Gujarat have registered to sell their summer moong at MSP. To facilitate the procurement process, the state government has created 51 procurement centers in different districts where registered farmers will be able to sell their produce.

Procedure and extent of purchase

He said that all registered farmers will get information about their procurement program through SMS. Farmers will have to visit the allotted procurement center with their stock of moong on the date and time mentioned in the message.

Vaghani further said that for the 2025-26 procurement season, the quantity of moong to be procured from each farmer will be determined based on the area sown, taking into account the productivity of 1,200 kg per hectare. He said the maximum purchase limit per farmer has been fixed at 1,500 kg, i.e. 75 maunds.

Appealing to the farmers, the Minister urged all the registered beneficiaries across the state to participate in the procurement process within the stipulated time to avail maximum benefits of the scheme.

What is price support scheme?

The price support scheme, under the Centre’s PM-ASHA scheme, enables purchase of eligible agricultural commodities at the notified MSP when market prices fall below the support price, aimed at protecting farmers’ income. (ANI)
