India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections recorded strong growth in July 2026, reflecting healthy economic activity and a major increase in tax revenues from imports. According to the government’s monthly GST revenue report released on Saturday, gross GST collections reached Rs 2.11 lakh crore during the month, marking a 15.4 per cent year-on-year increase over July 2025.
The latest figures indicate continued momentum in , with both domestic transactions and import-related revenues contributing to the overall rise.
Gross GST revenue generated from domestic transactions rose to Rs 1.45 lakh crore in July 2026, up 10.1 per cent from Rs 1.31 lakh crore in the same month last year.
Meanwhile, GST collected on imports saw a much sharper rise. Import-related GST revenues climbed 28.8 per cent year-on-year to Rs 66,511 crore, helping lift the country’s total gross GST collections to Rs 2.11 lakh crore for the month.
The data suggests that stronger domestic demand, along with higher import tax collections, played a key role in boosting overall GST revenues during July.
The government also processed higher GST refunds during the month. Total refunds increased 13.1% from a year earlier to Rs 29,968 crore.
Exporters accounted for a significant portion of these refunds. Refunds processed through the ICEGATE system rose 22.7% year-on-year to Rs 12,288 crore, indicating continued support for export-oriented businesses.
After accounting for refunds, net GST collections stood at Rs 1.81 lakh crore, representing a 15.8 per cent increase compared with July 2025.
Net domestic GST revenue rose 10.5 per cent to Rs 1.27 lakh crore, while net customs GST revenue registered an even stronger 30.3 per cent jump to Rs 54,223 crore.
GST Collections Maintain Growth In Current Financial Year
The government’s data also highlighted sustained growth during the first four months of the ongoing financial year.
Between April and July 2026, gross GST collections reached Rs 8.43 lakh crore, compared with Rs 7.66 lakh crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, reflecting a 10.1 per cent increase.
Net GST collections for the four-month period climbed 9.2 per cent to Rs 7.21 lakh crore, indicating consistent revenue growth despite higher refund outflows.
Haryana Tops State-Wise GST Growth; Several States See Declines
Among the larger states, Haryana recorded the strongest year-on-year growth in GST collections at 25 per cent during July.
Gujarat and Telangana followed with 19 per cent growth each, while Punjab and Kerala posted increases of 16 per cent. Uttar Pradesh registered a 15 per cent rise in GST collections.
Maharashtra, the country’s biggest contributor to GST revenues, recorded 13 per cent growth, while Karnataka reported a 12 per cent increase. Delhi saw GST collections grow by 8 per cent.
However, not every state witnessed higher collections. Himachal Pradesh recorded the steepest decline, with GST revenues falling 22 per cent year-on-year. Uttarakhand saw an 18 per cent drop, while Puducherry registered a 17 per cent decline. Collections also fell in Madhya Pradesh, which stood at 10 per cent, Andhra Pradesh, which stood at 5 per cent, and Tamil Nadu, which reported a marginal 1 per cent decrease.
