In Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh, farmers are earning profits worth lakhs of rupees from vegetable crops. In such a situation, the farmers of Hardoi are getting bumper production of tomatoes by using good seeds in tomato cultivation. These farmers are doing more profitable farming at lower cost by adopting scientific methods. Besides, the Horticulture Department is also helping these farmers to become progressive farmers through Kisan Chaupal.
Hardoi farmer Shailendra told that he has been cultivating tomatoes for a long time. Earlier, there was high cost and low profit in tomato cultivation, but hybrid tomato cultivation with staking, mulching and drip irrigation technology has made the fields raining money. He told that 300 grams of hybrid tomato seeds in one hectare produces 1200 quintals of tomatoes. If the fields are properly maintained, the tomato crop continues to grow for 10 months. He is using drip system for tomato cultivation.
How to get more profit at less cost?
Innovative farmer Shailendra told that some special things have to be kept in mind while preparing the field. For planting one hectare field, 300 grams of hybrid tomato seeds are required. After preparing the bed, preparation of the field is done. While plowing the field, 100 kg nitrogen, 70 kg phosphorus, 50 kg potash and cow dung manure is required. In this, ammonium sulphate can be used instead of urea.
Use of drip irrigation system
Tomato cultivation is best in sandy loam soil. Tomato cultivation is improved by using four quintals of lime at an interval of three years. While ploughing, planting is done in row method by adopting a plant distance of 50 cm. Keeping in mind the soil moisture at the right time, it is best to water through drip irrigation system. To protect against pests from time to time before flowering, information about anti-insect medicine can be obtained from the Horticulture Department or Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
Tomato variety, method of cultivation
District Horticulture Officer of Hardoi, Subhash Chandra said that the tomato varieties include varieties like Pusa Ruby, Pusa Gaurav, Pusa Sankar, Pusa Sheetal and Pusa Uphaar, Divya, Arka Rakshak. These varieties are blight and rot resistant varieties. These varieties start bearing fruits in 70 to 80 days. The fruit grown in it is bright red in color, due to which it is sold at a good price in the market. According to an estimate, about 35 kg of tomatoes can be harvested from one healthy tomato plant and depending on the fluctuations in the market price, the tomato fruits can be kept on the tree for several days and plucked.
Earns up to Rs 15 lakh
The price of these two tomatoes is between Rs 60 to Rs 100. If the calculations are done correctly, a tomato tree gives about Rs 1500 in a year. By sowing 300 grams of hybrid tomato seeds in one hectare, a crop of up to 1200 quintals is obtained. It can also be increased with good care. By cultivating one hectare of hybrid tomato, a farmer earns up to Rs 15 lakh. Farming costs Rs 2 to 3 lakh in a year. According to this, the farmer saves about Rs 12 lakh.
