Goa will now become a new hub of tech
Till now we all considered Goa only as a place to visit on holidays, spend time on the beach and party, but now Goa is changing its image. Goa’s IT and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte says that the state will no longer rely only on tourism. After the decline in mining work, now the Goa government is opening its doors to tech companies, new startups and people working from home (remote workers). The objective of the government is very clear, to give you a great lifestyle, where there is no work stress and the environment also remains clean.
What is special for you in ‘Work From Goa’ model?
No internet tension: The government is working on providing high-speed internet and Wi-Fi facilities at every necessary place by the coming season.
Co-working spaces and homestays: Special types of homestays are being prepared for living and working. For this, the government is working closely with platforms like Airbnb so that you do not face any problem in staying for a long time.
Trip to villages: Not just the beaches, now you can manage your office while enjoying the villages of Goa, its culture, historical places and delicious food.
There will be no congestion like Bengaluru-Hyderabad
The Goa government says that it does not want to make Goa a concrete jungle like Bengaluru or Hyderabad, where hours are spent in traffic. They want a ‘sustainable model’ (development that does not harm the environment) where select and talented people from India and abroad can come, work and live peacefully without any pollution.
Big companies and startups changed their addresses
You will be surprised to know that currently around 800 government recognized startups are working in Goa, out of which more than 250 are run by women. Aerospace companies like ‘Sarla Aviation’ are researching flying electric taxis (eVTOL) and drones in Goa. Big names like Prannoy Gupta of ’91Springboard’ (co-working space), Mohit Dubey of ‘Chalo’ app and ‘Wakao Foods’ have either shifted to Goa or are expanding their operations there. By the end of this June, Goa will join the select states in the country which will have their own AI (Artificial Intelligence) policy.
Challenges still remain, but intentions are firm
Of course, to make Goa a full-fledged tech hub, the basics like electricity, internet and roads will still need to be strengthened. Raising investment from private companies is also a big task. But the government is taking rapid steps in this direction and the scene here is going to change completely in the coming few months.
