Actor and former MP Govinda has taken a firm legal stance against rumours surrounding his personal life, particularly social media claims about an alleged court marriage with Rani Swarnkar. The warning comes after a series of reports about Govinda’s marriage and divorce circulated online, with the actor’s side now cautioning against the spread of unverified and allegedly defamatory material.
Govinda Warns Against False Marriage And Divorce Reports
A public notice issued on Govinda’s behalf has warned the public, media organisations, digital platforms and content creators against creating, publishing, uploading, circulating or sharing any false, defamatory, malicious, fabricated or unverified material concerning the actor or his family.
The notice specifically addresses reports linked to Govinda’s alleged court marriage with Rani Swarnkar. It also comes after earlier reports concerning his divorce were circulated and subsequently described as false.
The actor’s side has made it clear that material involving Govinda’s private or family life should not be presented as fact without proper verification.
Deepfakes, AI-Generated Content Also Under Scrutiny
The legal warning goes beyond conventional social media posts. It also specifically refers to photographs, videos, audio recordings, morphed images, deepfakes and other synthetic content created through artificial intelligence.
According to the notice, Govinda has not authorised anyone to create, alter or use material connected to his voice, image, identity, likeness or personal and family life through AI or other digital technologies.
Govinda Warns Of Civil And Criminal Action
The notice warns that legal proceedings could follow against those accused of spreading such material. It cites applicable laws concerning defamation, privacy violations, misuse of identity and cybercrime.
The notice also refers to provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000, indicating that both civil and criminal remedies may be pursued.
Govinda has also warned that claims for damages of up to Rs 100 crore could be made against those found guilty, according to the notice.
Action Sought Against YouTube Channels, Social Media Accounts
The notice also seeks legal action against YouTube channels and other social media accounts alleged to have deliberately circulated false or misleading content.
Govinda’s side has referred to past experiences while expressing concern that rumours could be spread in a planned manner with the intention of harming his reputation. The notice describes such activity as an attempt to cause mental and social harm.
The warning further indicates that court intervention could be sought against alleged offenders, including action involving bank accounts, restrictions on property transactions, passport seizure and other measures permitted under the law.
Notice Follows Viral Sunita Ahuja-Rakhi Sawant Conversation
According to IANS, the notice was issued a day after a conversation between Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, and Rakhi Sawant went viral.
In that conversation, Sunita claimed that she had withdrawn the divorce petition because Govinda intended to marry actress Rani Swarnkar.
