Govinda Issues Public Notice Over Marriage Rumours, Threatens ₹100 Crore Legal Action

Actor and former MP Govinda has issued a public notice warning media organisations, social media users, digital platforms and content creators against publishing or circulating what he described as false, defamatory, malicious, fabricated or unverified information about him and his family.

The notice comes amid a fresh wave of speculation surrounding Govinda’s personal life, following a viral conversation between his wife, Sunita Ahuja, and actor Rakhi Sawant.

During the conversation, Sunita reportedly claimed that she had withdrawn a divorce petition because Govinda intended to marry actress Rani Swarnkar. The claims have since generated widespread discussion on social media.

Govinda’s notice specifically cautions against the creation or dissemination of photographs, videos, audio recordings, morphed images, deepfakes and other synthetic or AI-generated material relating to him or his family.

According to the notice, Govinda has not authorised anyone to create, manipulate or use his voice, image, identity or details concerning his personal or family life through artificial intelligence or other digital technologies.

The notice warns that civil and criminal proceedings may be initiated against those responsible under applicable laws concerning defamation, privacy violations, identity misuse and cybercrime. It also cites provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Govinda has warned that claims of up to ₹100 crore could be pursued against those found liable. The notice also refers to possible court-directed measures involving bank accounts, property transactions and passports, along with other remedies available under law.

Legal action has also been sought against YouTube channels and other social media accounts allegedly involved in deliberately circulating misleading or false material concerning the actor.

The notice further states that Govinda is concerned about the possibility of organised attempts to damage his public image through rumours. Through the legal warning, the actor has sought to discourage the circulation of unverified reports and speculation concerning his personal affairs.

The allegations and claims referenced in the notice remain matters for legal and factual determination.
