According to local folklore, a great saint cursed the region. It is said that the saint asked the villagers to take care of his disciple, but the villagers forgot the disciple as soon as the saint left and no one came when the disciple needed the help of the people. The disciple died due to ignoring the villagers. Angered by this, the saint cursed the entire area that whoever stays here after sunset will become a stone. Even today people believe that living in the temple premises after sunset is inauspicious. Tourists and locals leave the temple before evening.
