Beauty pressure is nothing new in Bollywood
Dia Mirza’s experience is not limited to any one actress. In the last few years, many actresses have openly stated that unrealistic expectations are set in the industry regarding age, complexion, body and face. Research titled “Analyzing Gender Stereotyping in Bollywood Movies” published in 2017 also found that women in the Hindi film industry are often presented with a perspective of traditional beauty and limited roles. According to research, gender stereotypes have long existed in the portrayal of women in films.
