Bhubaneswar, (Odisha): Adani Group on Thursday announced a big project in Odisha. The group will invest $ 11.5 billion i.e. about Rs 1.08 lakh crore to create a complete ecosystem related to aluminum manufacturing in the state. The project is expected to create more than 53,000 jobs during construction and operation.
World’s largest investment in aluminum sector
- Speaking at the MoU signing event in Bhubaneswar, Adani Enterprises Managing Director Karan Adani said the proposed project will be one of the world’s largest investments in the aluminum sector. This will give a great boost to the industrial development of Odisha.
- Karan Adani said, “With a proposed investment of $ 11.5 billion, or about Rs 1.08 lakh crore, this is one of the largest investments in the aluminum ecosystem anywhere in the world. But its real significance lies not just in the size of the investment, but in its deep impact.”
Why is this mega project of Adani special?
This project will bring together the entire value chain of aluminium. This will include an alumina refinery with a capacity of about 4 million tonnes per annum, an aluminum smelter with a capacity of about 2 million tonnes per annum and a downstream aluminum park with a capacity of about 1 million tonnes per annum. A captive power plant of about 4,000 MW will also be set up for this project, in which 400 MW will be green energy.
Know how youth will get 50 thousand jobs
- Highlighting the employment potential to be generated from the project, Karan Adani said that it will generate direct and indirect livelihood opportunities on a large scale across the state.
- “The project will create approximately 35,000 jobs during construction. It will support approximately 18,500 jobs during operation. Behind each of these numbers is a family, a dream, a youth learning a skill, a small business that gets an order, a local entrepreneur that finds a market, and a community that sees new opportunities,” he said.
Describing this investment as a milestone in Odisha’s industrial journey, Karan Adani said that the state is rapidly transforming from a raw material supplier to a value-added manufacturing hub with the help of strong policy support and proactive governance.
He said that this project will also contribute to the vision of making India a developed nation by 2047, as well as the aspiration of making Odisha a prosperous state by 2036 by creating value-added manufacturing and employment.
Plan to take Odisha to the world
- Reiterating Adani Group’s long-term commitment towards the state, Karan Adani said that Odisha holds a strategic place in the Group’s development plans.
- “I want to say this to the people of Odisha: This project is yours. This is to create opportunities for your children, strengthen your local economy, support your entrepreneurs and take Odisha to the world,” he said.
- Karan Adani thanked the Government of Odisha for its vision to create a globally competitive industrial ecosystem and welcomed the participation of IHC Abu Dhabi and other partners in this proposed project.
