Many rituals are performed from leaving the human body to the last rites. These include the ritual of planting a Tulsi plant after the cremation of a person. Tulsi plant is considered very sacred in Hindu religion. In religious scriptures, Tulsi is considered to be the form of Lakshmi.

This is the reason why Tulsi is used in everything from worship to funeral rituals. Garuda Purana is included in 18 Mahapuranas. In this, the deeds to be done after death and the journey of the soul are explained in detail. According to Garuda Purana, Tulsi has special importance in the works performed after death. The Tulsi plant removes the negative energy that comes into the atmosphere of the house after death.

Tulsi is the way to attain salvation

In the ninth chapter of Garuda Purana, Lord Vishnu has told Garuda that the house where there is a Tulsi plant is like a place of pilgrimage. Yamraj’s messengers cannot enter such a house. Even if someone has committed innumerable sins and keeps Tulsi Manjri near him at the time of dying, the messengers of Yamdoot are unable to reach him. At the same time, by keeping basil leaves and sesame seeds in the mouth at the time of death, the person becomes free from sins and goes to Vaikuntha Dham. Tulsi plant is very special for attaining peace of soul and salvation. This is the reason for planting Tulsi after cremation.

The soul attains salvation by worshiping Tulsi.

At many places people plant a Tulsi plant three days after the cremation, while at other places this ritual is performed on the thirteenth day. By planting Tulsi plant the environment becomes pure. It is believed that if someone dies untimely, a Tulsi plant should be planted and worshiped regularly. It is said that by doing this the soul attains salvation.
