The graphic shared by Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw showed two different models of the elevated road corridor. The first part was titled “What We Made”. It showed a road made of concrete. It was also claimed that during this construction, trees were removed, footpaths and service roads were destroyed and essential public facilities for the people were also not left. The title of the second part was “What could we create”. It showed the same road with amenities like trees, cycle tracks, wide footpaths, better street lights, benches to sit and dustbins.

What did people say on social media?
After this post of Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, a large number of people expressed their opinion on social media. Many users blamed poor urban planning, weak administration and non-compliance of rules for the current condition of the city.
Questions raised on poor planning and corruption
One user wrote, “I completely agree. The administration and politicians together have harmed this city. They are more interested in concrete roads because there is more commission in construction works like iron and cement. There is no such benefit in planting trees.”
People’s concern over lack of sustainable cities
Another user wrote, “Indian cities are not sustainable. We tax and spend like international cities, but the facilities are still like developing countries. This is a sad situation.”
Demand for better maintenance and law enforcement
A third user said, “If the infrastructure that already exists is properly maintained and the rules are implemented without any discrimination, then people can get a lot of relief. At present, people are losing patience and following the rules is also decreasing.”
Appeal to save the identity of ‘Garden City’
Another person wrote, “If there is proper planning, work is done as per set standards and laws are strictly implemented, then good results can be achieved. However, the city has already suffered a lot of damage. Today the situation is such that everything is going on without any clear arrangement. Garden City has now become a garbage city. Are the government and administration not worried about this?”

However, not everyone seemed to completely agree with this idea. One user wrote, “It is a good idea, but in a big city like Bengaluru, it will not be easy to implement it everywhere. Roads are not so wide at every place in the city and people also do not take proper care of public facilities.” Another person said, “Until corruption ends and officials are held accountable, the situation will not change. Many government employees and officials focus only on extracting their share from the budget. In such a situation, it seems difficult to make serious plans for a better Bengaluru and a better lifestyle.”
