New Delhi: From water conservation and natural farming to tree plantation and cleanliness, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday exhorted people to take nine collective pledges.
He was speaking at an event organised to inaugurate Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Mandira at the Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math in Karnataka’s Mandya on Wednesday. PM Modi appealed the people to take the nine pledges to realise a “developed Karnataka and a developed India”.

Listing priorities
The Prime Minister outlined his priorities, pointing out that his first appeal was for water conservation and better water management. This request was followed by appeal for tree plantation under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ drive, maintaining cleanliness in public and religious places, strengthening local products through ‘Vocal for Local’, encouraging domestic tourism, embracing chemical-free natural farming, and promoting healthy diets with millets and reduced oil intake. PM Modi also called on the people to adopt yoga and fitness, and to nurture service.
He pointed out: “If we move forward with honesty and determination on these nine resolutions, we can rapidly progress towards a developed Karnataka and a developed India.”
At the event
The Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Mandira at the Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math in Mandya, Karnataka is a memorial dedicated to the revered seer, Sri Balagangadharanatha Mahaswami, the 71st Pontiff of the Math. He is revered by the dominant Vokkaliga community.
PM Modi also released a book titled ‘Saundarya Lahari and Shiva Mahimna Stotram’ along with former PM and JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda.
Before inaugurating the ‘Mandira’, PM Modi visited Jwala Peeta and Sri Kalabhairaveshwara Swamy temple and offered prayer there. Legends have it that Lord Shiva resided for penance at Jwala Peeta.
Among those present at the event were Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, current pontiff of Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math, Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswami, Union Ministers H D Kumaraswamy and Shobha Karandlaje.
