Middle East Peace Deal: Uproar over Iranian Foreign Minister’s hint of agreement with America. Iranian media cornered him for his evasive statements, while Trump dismissed the leaked details as false. The agreement talks about lifting the sanctions in exchange for a ban on the nuclear programme.
Tehran: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has come under target of his own country’s media. There is an uproar over one of his social media posts regarding the peace agreement with America. Iranian media have accused him of equivocating and thus giving US President Donald Trump an opportunity to blame Iran. The media has even raised the question whether he is trying to support Trump’s stance? However, Araghchi has replied that this agreement is being done under the supervision of the Supreme National Council.
Actually, this whole matter started when Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that America and Iran are getting closer to an agreement for peace in West Asia. He wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “The consensus reached in Islamabad is now closer to completion than ever before.” His statement came when some media organizations of Iran had leaked the alleged details of the agreement. Araghchi had appealed to the media not to speculate until the agreement is finalised. He also assured that Iran will maintain complete transparency and will share all the information with the public when the time comes.
After this, US President Donald Trump shared the screenshot of Araghchi’s ‘X’ post on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’. But, he strongly criticized the details of the agreement leaked in Iranian media. Trump made it clear that the news circulating in the media has nothing to do with the terms of the written agreement between the two countries. However, he also indicated that despite differences on some issues, the two sides may soon reach a solution.
According to Iranian media, many major things were included in the leaked agreement. As Iran will not develop nuclear weapons, it will normalize the situation in the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days. In return, America will give Iran a huge amount of money including reconstruction and frozen funds and will also lift the sanctions on Iran.
At the same time, in the list released by Iran’s Mehr Agency, there are some things which can become a cause of concern for Israel. According to this, there will be no discussion on Iran’s missile capability and the support given to its supporting groups in the region. The discussion on the nuclear issue is also limited only to the reserves of uranium and the level of its enrichment. This means that as per Israel’s demand, Iran will neither destroy nor completely shut down its nuclear bases. Now it remains to be seen whether all these things find a place in the final agreement or not.
