Francesco Bagnaia on the incident with Maverick Viñales: ‘I got scared and I lost the front’

The first day of the Solidarity GP of Barcelona went well for Francesco Bagnaia. The rider showed consistent progress, finishing as the fastest with a lap of 1m38.918s in practice.

The Ducati rider expressed satisfaction with his Friday performance: ‘It was good, honestly. I feel good, because it’s what I want in every race weekends: to start well, feel well, and work well. We never did a step back, in every run we were doing a step foward. So, I’m happy about it’.

Bagnaia’s day was also marked by an unusual crash after a practice start in the first free practice session. The 2022 and 2023 champion explained what happened:

– This morning was… I missed the start, because my rear tyre spun, and then we are on the limit with the engine, so I didn’t want to push on that because you never know. I think my mistake was to slow down that much. But honestly, when you are that fast, you go to the inside, and it was full of space on the inside. I started hearing him, and I tought he would go to the inside. But as soon as I saw him arriving with an enormous speed on the outside, on the kerb, with the bike moving, I got scared and I lost the front like this.
