On Friday, former leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Sukhen Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prakash Chik Barik, were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha as candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from West Bengal.
Following the announcement of their unopposed election, the returning officer presented them with their certificates.
Just hours after joining the party, Roy, Dev, and Barik were declared as BJP’s Rajya Sabha candidates on July 9. These three had resigned from the Rajya Sabha and left the TMC after the party’s disappointing performance in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Their switch to the BJP dealt a significant political blow to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s party, and now they are set to return to the upper house under the BJP banner.
