In Firozabad, a retired SI (73) committed suicide after shooting his cancer-stricken wife (68). He was under mental stress due to allegations of financial irregularities in the college.
Firozabad: A retired sub-inspector himself committed suicide after shooting his wife dead in Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Police said that the deceased have been identified as 73-year-old Rakesh Kumar and his 68-year-old wife Ramamurthy Devi. Rakesh Kumar was a retired SI and was working as the manager of Adarsh Krishna Inter College. His wife Ramamurthy Devi was suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment.
According to the police, the incident happened inside his house near Subhash Chowk. It is being told that Rakesh Kumar first shot his wife in the chest with his licensed revolver, due to which she died on the spot. After this he committed suicide by shooting himself on the forehead.
The family members were shocked to hear the sound of the bullet. The couple’s daughter and grandson ran towards the room and found both of them dead. As soon as the news was received, senior police officers and local teams reached the spot. Police have also recovered the licensed revolver used in the incident. Firozabad SP (rural) Anuj Chaudhary told TOI, “We are investigating the case from every angle. No suicide note has been found from the spot.”
Relatives say that Rakesh Kumar was under a lot of mental pressure after allegations of financial irregularities in the Inter College he managed. In May 2025, a case was also registered against him on the orders of the court. His nephew had alleged that he embezzled the income from the institute’s agricultural land and fraudulently maintained his control over the management of the college. Family members told the police that Rakesh Kumar had returned from the court hearing on Saturday and was looking very upset. His elder daughter also confirmed that he was under a lot of stress for the last few months.
