Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced to waive off the outstanding electricity bills of farmers worth about Rs 48 thousand crores. The government says that this decision has been taken with the aim of reducing the cost of farming and providing economic strength to the farmers. After this announcement, there is an atmosphere of happiness among the farmers across the state and it is being considered as a big step for the agriculture sector.

Speaking at the farmers felicitation ceremony organized by BJP Kisan Morcha at Yashwantrao Chavan Pratisthan Auditorium in Mumbai, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that electricity bills are not being charged in advance on agricultural pumps up to 7.5 horse power in the state. Now the old outstanding electricity bills of the farmers will also be completely canceled.
The Chief Minister said that repeated loan waiver is not a permanent solution. The aim of the government is to create such a system that makes farming profitable and the income of farmers continues to increase for a long time. He also said that some people do politics in the name of farmers, while the state government is working on taking concrete decisions in the interest of farmers.

Emphasis on electricity subsidy, solar pumps and strengthening agriculture
CM Fadnavis said that the Maharashtra government is giving electricity subsidy of about Rs 25 thousand crore every year to reduce the farming expenses of the farmers. Due to solar pumps and Solar Krishi Vahini scheme, about 76 percent of the farmers of the state are getting electricity during day time.
He expressed confidence that by the end of the year the target of providing electricity to all the farmers during the day will be achieved. The Chief Minister said that the government is also continuously working on schemes like natural farming, conservation of indigenous cows, increasing agricultural productivity and linking agriculture with industry.
Preparation to reduce the problem of drought through irrigation projects
The Chief Minister said that many big projects are progressing rapidly to increase the irrigation capacity in the state. Work is underway to deliver water to the Godavari and Tapi basins, develop new water projects, construct 24 new dams and increase the height of 16 old dams.
He expressed confidence that after the completion of these projects, the coming generations of Maharashtra will not have to face serious problems like drought. The Chief Minister reiterated that the aim of the government is not just to make announcements, but to bring permanent changes in the lives of farmers and the agricultural system. As soon as the electricity bill waiver was announced in the program, the farmers present gave a warm welcome.
