Falgun Amavasya 2026 Do’s And Don’t’s: In Sanatan Dharma, the date of Amavasya is very sacred and special. Amavasya day is considered very special from religious, spiritual and astrological point of view. On this day, donations are made by taking bath in the holy river. Worship is done. It is believed that doing all these works on the day of Amavasya brings special virtue. The worship done on this day also improves the position of the planets and stars in the horoscope.
Phalgun month is going on. The Amavasya falling in this month will be Falgun Amavasya. This Amavasya is going to be celebrated tomorrow i.e. on 17th February. The date of Amavasya is considered to be that of ancestors. It is believed that by offering Tarpan and Pind Daan to ancestors on this day, Pitra Dosh is removed. What to do on Phalgun Amavasya?
On the day of Amavasya, wake up before sunrise, take bath, meditate and worship the ancestors along with the Gods and Goddesses. Mix black sesame seeds, kush etc. in water and offer Arghya for the ancestors. Donate blankets, clothes, food, money etc. on this day. To get freedom from Pitra Dosh, worship Peepal tree on this day. On this day, sit in a secluded place and meditate. By doing this one gets mental peace and spiritual knowledge. Study religious books. Chant the mantras of Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Sun God, Mother Lakshmi, Mother Saraswati etc.
What not to do on Phalgun Amavasya?
Do not consume tamasic food even by mistake on Amavasya day. Avoid eating meat, alcohol, garlic-onion etc. on this day. Do not cut nails, hair etc. on this day. Do not fight at home on this day. Solar eclipse is taking place on the day of Phalgun Amavasya, hence do not travel. Do not pluck basil, vine etc. leaves on this day. Avoid sleeping during day time. Do not disrespect elders. Avoid going to deserted places.
