Mumbai Indians (MI) finally registered a long-awaited win in the IPL 2026 when they defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by a massive margin of 99 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 20 (Monday).
This would be a massive sigh of relief for MI, who got their first win after four consecutive losses. With this win, they finally broke their losing streak, and expanded their chances of reaching the IPL 2026 playoffs by finishing in the top four of the points table at the end of the league stage.
MI now have two wins from 6 games. They currently climbed to the 7th spot in the IPL 2026 points table, with four points a Net Run Rate of +0.067. The magic points tally for qualifying for the playoffs in the IPL has always been 16.
Hence, MI now need 12 more points from their remaining matches. Hence, they need to win six of their final 8 matches to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs by finishing in the top four.
In IPL 2025 too, MI was in a similar situation. and they had won their final six games of the league stage in a row to qualify for the playoffs.

After being put into bat first after losing the toss, Mumbai Indians got off to a stuttering start as they lost their first three wickets for just 44 runs. and Naman Dhir then seadied the MI innings with a 52-run partnership, with Dhir getting out after scoring 45 runs.
After that, it was Tilak who shifted gears and started smashing the GT bowers all over the park. He went on to smash his first century in the IPL, scoring 101 runs from 45 balls. He stitched an 81-run stand with Hardik Pandya and a 7-ball 22 run stand with Sherfane Rutherford. MI managed to on a total of 199/5 at the end of 20 overs.
Gujarat Titans were never in the game in the second innings. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals, and were all out for just 100 runs in 15.5 overs. Ashwani Kumar was the star with the ball for MI, taking 4 wickets for 24 runs. Spinners Allah Ghazanfar and Mitchell Santner picked up two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah finally broke the duck, and managed to take his first wicket of the IPL 2026.
