Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are in the hunt for a new head coach following Stephen Fleming’s exit from the franchise. Fleming and CSK mutually parted ways in July.
Recently, R Ashwin hinted that CSK could appoint Eoin Morgan as their new head coach. Morgan, who played for different teams in IPL, has never coached a team in the Indian T20 league. He is England’s only ODI World Cup winner. Kris Srikkanth, a member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, has reacted to the rumour and shared his take on it.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth said that Morgan is a good guy but he can’t be made CSK’s coach. “Even we don’t understand what Morgan speaks; how will the players understand? He’s a very nice person, but just because he’s a good guy, he can’t be made the coach,” he said.
Srikkanth also doesn’t want Hemang Badani as CSK’s head coach. Badani joined Delhi Capitals (DC) as their head coach before IPL 2025. Despite a dream start, DC failed to qualify for the second round of IPL 2025. They couldn’t clear the league stage in 2026 as well.
“With Badani as head coach, CSK will go nowhere. He was at the helm for two seasons with DC, and we saw what happened to them. Some relatively unknown Indian names should be given,” Srikkanth added.
CSK’s performance under Fleming

CSK enjoyed a dream run underĀ and won the trophy five times. Fleming first joined CSK as a player and represented the Yellow Army in 2008. He was appointed CSK’s head coach before IPL 2009. He continued to coach them till 2015 and followed MS Dhoni at Rising Pune Supergiant for IPL 2016 and 2017.
Fleming was retained as CSK’s head coach upon their IPL return. CSK made a dream return to IPL and won the IPL 2018 trophy. They suffered a one-run defeat against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2019 final.
CSK won their previous IPL trophy in 2023 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. It was their last IPL season with Dhoni as the full-time captain. Fleming has now joined England as their Test team’s coach.
