Yildirimhan Missile Turkey: Amidst the ongoing tension in the Middle East and changing global equations, Turkey has taken such a step, which has attracted the attention of the world’s major powers. Türkiye has now started preparing to make Intercontinental Ballistic Missile i.e. ICBM for the first time. It is being claimed that this missile will be capable of hitting a range of 6000 kilometers. The biggest thing is that countries like India and America can also come in its possible range.
This step of Turkey is not only being considered as an expansion of defense technology, but it is also being seen as a new challenge in the global balance of power. Especially when the world is already going through crises like Russia-Ukraine war, Iran-Israel tension and China-America competition.

What is Türkiye’s new missile plan?
The name of the missile on which Türkiye is working is said to be “Yildirimhan”. According to media reports, it will be an intercontinental ballistic missile, whose range can be up to 6000 kilometers. Missiles that can cover such a distance are available only in select countries of the world.
It has been reported that this missile will be equipped with four rocket engines and it will be able to fly at a speed approximately 25 times faster than the speed of sound. The Turkish Defense Ministry mentioned the project during the SAHA 2026 defense exhibition held in Istanbul.
The Defense Ministry says that this missile will significantly increase Türkiye’s strategic strength and air defense capability. The way the map from America to India was shown in the promotional video has sparked a new debate at the international level.
Why did America’s concern increase?
The US has long been keeping an eye on countries that try to develop long-range missile technology. Washington is considered very sensitive especially regarding missiles like ICBMs.
The Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) seeks to control the proliferation of long-range missile technology. Although different countries have their own defense programs, when a country moves towards a missile with a range of thousands of kilometers, there is a stir in global politics. Recently, America had also expressed concern over Pakistan’s long-range missile plans. In such a situation, this new project of Türkiye is also being viewed seriously in strategic circles.
How important is this development for India?
Relations between Türkiye and India have been tense over many issues in the past few years. Be it Türkiye’s statements on the Kashmir issue or its close relations with Pakistan, New Delhi has remained constantly alert. Experts believe that this missile is currently in the early stages of testing and development, but if Turkey successfully acquires ICBM capability, it could influence the strategic politics of Asia and Europe. Although India has already developed its own strong missile and defense system. India has long-range ballistic missiles like the Agni series, which play an important role in maintaining strategic balance.
How dangerous can Yildirimhan be?
According to reports, this missile can be capable of carrying a heavy payload of up to 3000 kg. A missile with this capability can have a devastating impact on a large scale. It is being told that liquid nitrogen tetroxide based fuel will be used in it. Its high-speed and long distance can put it in the extremely dangerous category. However, Turkey has not yet conducted any official test. Therefore, many questions remain regarding its actual capacity and technical performance.
The world’s eyes are now on Türkiye
Türkiye has already made rapid progress in drone technology and defense industry. Now news of the ICBM program has indicated that Ankara wants to establish itself as a major military power. At present, no major country has given an official response to this project, but the eyes of international strategic experts are now fixed on Turkey’s next step. If this project goes ahead, a new debate on global security and arms control may begin in the future.
