In the year 2026, a special possibility of Param Ekadashi is being formed on 11th June. On this auspicious occasion, let us know that after all Ekadashi How did the fast start and what is the mythological story of the divine goddess born from the body of Lord Vishnu, in whose name this fast is kept.

How did Ekadashi Devi appear from the body of Lord Vishnu?

According to mythology, in ancient times there was a very powerful demon named Mur. He had defeated the gods on the basis of his strength and bravery. Troubled by the atrocities of Murasura, all the gods took refuge in Lord Vishnu and prayed for his protection. Hearing the call of the gods, Lord Vishnu fought with Murasura. This war continued for several thousand years, but Murasura used to escape again and again due to his illusive powers.

After a long war, Lord Vishnu went to a cave to rest for some time. According to the story, when Lord Vishnu was resting, Murasura tried to attack him. At the same time, a wonderful goddess appeared from the glory and divine power of Lord Vishnu. That goddess was very bright, powerful and possessed of divine aura. The goddess challenged Murasura to a fight and killed him within no time. When Lord Vishnu woke up from his sleep, he saw the goddess and was pleased with her bravery and asked for a boon.

The goddess prayed to Lord Vishnu that the day on which he appeared should be considered the most sacred date in the world and whoever fasts and worships with devotion on that day should receive special virtues. Lord Vishnu accepted the wish of the goddess. Since the goddess was born on the Ekadashi date of the lunar month, she was named Ekadashi. Lord Vishnu gave a boon that this date would be very dear to him and any devotee who observes a fast on this day and worships him, his sins will be destroyed and he will get spiritual benefits. Since then the tradition of Ekadashi fast started and it started being counted as one of the best days to worship Lord Vishnu.

After all, why is Ekadashi fast observed?

According to the scriptures, Ekadashi means eleven. There are five sense organs, five action organs and the eleventh mind in our body. The basic objective of Ekadashi fast is to remove these eleven from the evil path and immerse them in the devotion of God. It is believed that by observing a fast on this day, a person’s sins from previous births are erased and mental peace is achieved.
