‘Either I released the brakes losing some positions, or I’d hit Pecco in the first corner’ – Jorge Martín

Jorge Martín finished second in the Sprint race at the MotoGP Thai GP after starting from third, but he had to recover even more.

The Prima Pramac rider widened his line in the first corner after the start, losing some positions.

The Spanish rider explained that he only had two options at that moment: ‘It was really difficult. The first corner was complicated; I think either I released the brakes, going wide and losing some positions, or I would hit Pecco. So, I decided to go wide. For sure, it was difficult afterward, I was sixth or seventh going into turn 3’.

During his comeback, the heat he experienced was another adversary for Martín: ‘From that point on, I tried to recover as soon as possible; for sure it was difficult. It was very hot behind, normally I’m a bit further ahead, so I’m not used to this heat, it was really tough, and I think my front temperature went super high’.

The current championship leader believes he performed well with his overtakes – the last of which was against his title rival, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati): ‘Anyway, I was riding well, I was competitive, so this is the most important thing. I was able to overtake [Pedro] Acosta, Marc [Márquez], and Pecco. So, I’m happy. Tomorrow it will be a difficult race, so I need to be really focused’.
