ED action on accounts worth Rs 440 crore

According to the information, ED, while taking action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), also conducted raids at several places in Kolkata. The focus of the investigation is on financial transactions that are said to be related to the purchase and use of private chartered aircraft and helicopters. The agency also searched the premises belonging to ‘Carewell Group of Companies’ and its aviation unit. It is alleged that large scale money transactions were done through these companies, the validity of which is under investigation.

What did the investigation reveal?

According to the preliminary investigation of ED, between April 2023 and June 2026, about Rs 160 crore was sent from TMC’s bank accounts to the accounts of ‘Carewell Aviation India Private Limited’ and its associated units. After this the company transferred about Rs 82.96 crore to another new company.

The investigating agency claims that in this entire financial chain, approximately Rs 112 crore was used to purchase ‘Embraer Legacy 600’ corporate aircraft and ‘AgustaWestland 109SP’ helicopter. It is alleged that later these planes were made available on rent to TMC. ED is now trying to find out who got the real benefits of these transactions.

Investigation intensified after complaint by rebel group

It is being told that after the internal dispute in the party and the complaint of rebel MLAs, the demand for investigation into the sources of party funds was raised. In this sequence, investigation of financial transactions started. Meanwhile, the group led by Mamata Banerjee has also approached the Calcutta High Court against freezing of accounts. Currently, ED is investigating the source of money, nature of transactions and role of alleged beneficiaries in the entire case. It is expected that more big revelations will be made in this matter in the coming days.
