Ebola virus alert has been issued worldwide. Amidst all this, a 28-year-old Ugandan woman, who arrived at Kempegowda International Airport on May 23, has been isolated at the Epidemic Disease Hospital in Indira Nagar as a precautionary measure.
His samples were taken for Ebola testing.
According to Health Department Principal Secretary Ritwik Ranjanam Pandey, the woman did not show any obvious symptoms like fever. “We still don’t know for sure (about his symptoms). The Airport Health Organization noticed some symptoms like fatigue and decided to take a sample,” he said.
Samples sent to Pune
Samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for testing. Health department officials said that after returning from Uganda, the woman had initially checked in at a hotel, but was later admitted to a government hospital after she showed mild symptoms like body pain.
Officials said that at present his condition is stable and he is being closely monitored. The test will be done once again as per the protocol. At present the first report from NIV Pune is awaited.
Concern increased worldwide
This case has come to light at a time when there has been increased concern around the world regarding the spread of Ebola in some parts of Africa. On May 17, the World Health Organization declared increasing cases of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a “public health emergency of international concern” (PHEIC).
After this alert, the Health Department of Karnataka issued an advisory on Friday, in which people returning from Ebola affected countries have been asked to keep an eye on themselves and keep checking their health for 21 days after coming to India.
