The people of western Uttar Pradesh, who were struggling with the scorching heat, got sudden relief on Tuesday afternoon. After intense sunlight and humidity throughout the day, the weather took such a turn that dust storms started blowing in many districts including Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Saharanpur and Shamli. It became cloudy at many places and light to moderate rain was also recorded.

After around 3 o’clock the weather suddenly changed with strong winds in many areas of western UP. The storm was so strong that even trees and electric poles fell at many places. Due to this, traffic was affected in some areas, while power supply was also affected.

Maximum impact of storm in Noida-Ghaziabad

Many old and dilapidated trees collapsed due to strong winds in Noida and Ghaziabad. Vehicular movement was affected due to trees falling on the roads. The Meteorological Department has advised people to avoid standing or parking vehicles under trees during inclement weather.

Heat still prevails in Purvanchal

While the weather became pleasant in western UP, the heat wave continued in most of the districts of Purvanchal. There was strong sunlight and humidity throughout the day in Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ballia, Azamgarh and surrounding areas. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain with thunderstorms and lightning in some districts of Purvanchal during the night.

When will monsoon reach UP?

According to the Lucknow center of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon has made good progress in the last 48 hours. At present, monsoon has advanced from Mumbai and has reached Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar.

According to the Meteorological Department, the northern limit of monsoon has currently reached Motihari region of Bihar. If conditions remain favourable, monsoon may enter Uttar Pradesh within the next two to three days.

Meteorologists believe that the same fluctuations in weather may continue in the state till the arrival of monsoon. Pre-monsoon rains and strong winds are likely to continue in many areas.
