ideaForge’s Q6 V2 GEO drone has received type certification from DGCA. Now it will be used commercially for survey, mapping and monitoring. It can fly for more than 45 minutes and supports advanced payloads like LiDAR.
New Delhi: Drone manufacturing company ideaForge Technology has received type certification from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for its Q6 V2 GEO drone. After this approval, this drone can now be used commercially across India for works like survey, mapping and aerial surveillance. This certification issued under the Drone Rules, 2021, places this drone in the ‘small’ category. Unmanned aircraft weighing between 2 kg to 25 kg fall in this category.
Features of Q6 V2 GEO
The Q6 V2 GEO drone is designed to be used with five types of payloads. These include LiDAR only, RGB imaging with LiDAR, high-resolution photogrammetry, three-dimensional oblique imaging and dual-sensors that work both day and night. This drone can fly for more than 45 minutes at a time. This feature is very useful in surveying large areas, as it saves the time and expense of repeatedly taking down the drone to change batteries.
This platform has been specially designed for tasks like land modelling, corridor mapping, volume analysis for mining, infrastructure monitoring, environmental monitoring and documentation of historical heritage. The company has also said that this drone can also be used in works like mapping of glaciers and avalanches, survey of river valleys and digitalization of rural lands. Government agencies in these areas are exploring aerial solutions on a large scale, especially under programs like the National Mapping Mission of the Survey of India and land record digitization of states.
Company co-founder and CEO Ankit Mehta said that this drone has been designed to work in “difficult conditions”. It aims to help enterprise customers as well as government agencies concerned with security and governance.
“With support for advanced payloads such as LiDAR, Q6 V2 GEO is designed to capture high-quality data for a variety of survey, mapping and investigation tasks,” he said.
Q6 V2 GEO was shown publicly for the first time at the Indian Geospatial Technology Conference ‘PRAGYA 2025’. Type certification from DGCA is mandatory for selling any drone commercially in India. According to current rules, without this, operators cannot legally fly this drone on rent or for any other commercial purpose.
