Doping stain on India again, this Indian player out of Commonwealth Games

Arun Kumar Doping Suspension: The Commonwealth Games 2026 has started in Glasgow, Scotland. But even before entering the games, an embarrassing news has come for India. An Indian player selected to participate in the Commonwealth Games has been caught in the doping trap, which has now been removed. According to the information, judo player Arun Kumar (73 kg) selected for CWG 2026 failed in the dope test. Due to this, Arun Kumar will not be able to participate in the games which started from July 23 in Glasgow.

in Glasgow on Thursday 23 July CWG 2026 Preparations were going on for the opening ceremony, in which many Indian athletes were also going to participate. But just a few hours before this ceremony, the news of Judoka Arun Kumar being caught in doping came out. The news of Arun, who was considered a big medal hope for India in Judo in these Games, being caught so close to the Games shook everyone and then he was immediately removed.

Although Arun was not caught when the games started, his test had already been done. According to reports, before the start of the Games, the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) had conducted his dope test, in which Arun’s sample was found positive. Presence of banned substance was found in his sample. Due to this, the Indian Olympic Association dropped him from the Indian squad going for the Commonwealth Games. Due to this, the Indian squad has now reduced from 125 to 124.

Impact on team preparations

This is not the first case regarding the current CWG squad. Just a few days ago, pistol shooter Gaurav Kumar was also found guilty of doping. Due to this, he was also dropped from the shooting team of the Games. Just before any major tournament, a player being caught in doping affects the morale of the entire team. There is a possibility that some other player will be given a chance in place of Arun Kumar in the 73 kg category, although it will not be easy for any substitute player to prepare in such a short time.
