Doda (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], November 14 (Desk): The District Commissioner (DC) of Doda, Harvinder Singh launched the “Poshan Abhiyaan” mobile van from the DC office complex in Doda on Thursday kicking off a dedicated push for nutrition awareness in rural and remote communities.
This initiative, a part of the “Poshan on Wheels” program, aims to educate people on essential nutritional practices for healthier lives, and healthier habits, especially among vulnerable groups like children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
By taking nutrition awareness to the grassroots level, the administration hopes to combat malnutrition and ensure a healthier future for the community.
This initiative is part of the broader Mission Poshan, which has been actively implemented in Doda.
The district administration has been working tirelessly to improve healthcare services, including sanitation and road safety initiatives.
DC Harvinder Singh said that the van would be covering the different villages of every district and would be present covering eight different projects.
“The Poshan Abhiyan van was flagged off today to create a sense of awareness among people. The main aim of the van is to educate people on essential nutritional practices. The van will be covering the villages of the districts for 36 days. We have eight projects in all, and each project will be given two days. There are still some people who are not availing the benefit of the scheme, this is for them. We appeal to the people to take more benefit of the schemes for them,” the DC said.
The mobile van has been equipped with audio-visual equipment, LED lights and informational material designed to engage the villagers community effectively.
POSHAN Abhiyaan (erstwhile National Nutrition Mission) was launched by the Prime Minister on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on 8th of March, 2018 from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan; the POSHAN (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) Abhiyaan directs the attention of the country towards the problem of malnutrition and aims to address it in a mission-mode.
POSHAN Abhiyaan is India’s flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. Target of the Abhiyaan is to reduce stunting in children (0-6 years of age) from 38.4% to 25% by 2022.
The goals of POSHAN Abhiyaan are to achieve improvement in nutritional status of Children from 0-6 years, pregnant Women and lactating Mothers in a time bound manner. (Desk)
