Dr. Simarpreet Singh Anand, resident of Ludhiana, Punjab, was serving as a senior resident in the very important Anesthesia department of Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital for the last three years. As usual, at 8 pm on Saturday, 4th July, he took up his 12-hour long night duty, which was to end at 8 am the next day i.e. 5th July.
That last night and the suspense of the cannula?
Police investigation has revealed that on Saturday night at around 10 pm, Dr. Anand had asked a technician from the hospital to get a cannula inserted in his left hand. When he did not come out till 9 am after the end of duty, the staff became worried. Duty room number 109 was completely locked from inside. When there was no movement despite repeated knocking, the security personnel forcibly broke the door. Dr. Anand was lying unconscious on the bed. He was immediately taken to the emergency, but it was too late; Doctors declared him dead.

As soon as the news of the doctor’s death spread in the hospital, the team of Civil Lines Police Station immediately reached the spot. Considering the sensitivity of the case, Rohini’s District Crime Team and senior experts of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were immediately called to the spot. When investigators conducted a thorough search of the room, a black bag was recovered near Dr. Anand’s bed. As soon as this bag was opened, the matter took a new and sensational turn.
To the police from inside the bag:

That ‘bloody’ sting of a different caste: The story of love and helplessness revealed in a 3-page note
The 3-page suicide note found by the police has exposed the biggest mystery behind this entire tragedy. Dr. Anand has clearly written in his last letter that he is taking this suicidal step of his own free will. But, what was written next brought to the fore a bitter reality of modern society. The letter mentioned his deep relationship with his fellow doctor, Dr. Akanksha Chaudhary, who had been working as a senior resident in the anesthesia department of the same hospital for the last two years. Dr. Chaudhary is originally from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. According to the note, both of them loved each other very much and wanted to get married. But both their families were strictly against this relationship, because they belonged to different castes. This strong opposition from the families and social pressure had broken both of them badly, after which Dr. Anand, in despair, chose the path of death.
Medical Board will do post mortem: Every aspect on the radar of Civil Lines Police
Delhi Police is taking careful steps in this high-profile case. Dr. Anand’s body has been safely kept in the mortuary, where a special ‘medical board’ of doctors will conduct his post-mortem on Monday. The FSL team is investigating which deadly chemical or anesthetic drug was injected into the doctor’s body through a syringe. The police are now scanning the mobile chats, call records and pages of their personal diaries of Dr. Anand and Dr. Akanksha to understand the complete chronology of this dreadful night of death.
