Establishment of Udaipur
The history of Udaipur begins in 1558, when Maharaja Uday Singh of the Rajput Sisodia dynasty transferred his capital from Chittorgarh here. Udaipur became the historic capital of the state of Mewar and since then the city became a symbol of the Rajputs’ pride and glory. It is said that Maharaja Uday Singh searched for a safe place for the establishment of Udaipur, where they could get protection from enemies.
