Hundreds of trucks riding on RO RO Train
RO RO Train i.e. Roll On/Roll Off Train rides on the railway track carrying hundreds of trucks. This train was started by Konkan Railway. Konkan Railway started Ro-Ro service in the year 1999. This service was started so that truck drivers can save both time and money.
In fact, it took 24 to 40 hours to transport trucks by road to Surathkal station, several kilometers away from Mumbai. But to reduce this distance, Ro-Ro train service is available, after which this route can be completed in just 12 to 22 hours. This also reduces the expenses of truck owners.
RO RO Train Service
Roll on roll off service currently operates between these locations.
- Kolad (145 km from Mumbai) and Verna (12 km from Madgaon)
- Varna and Surathkal (20 kms from Mangalore)
- Kolad and Surathkal
On these routes, truck drivers save both fuel expenses and time. The fare for carrying trucks in this train is quite cheap. According to Konkan Railway, there is no risk of accident in this. In this, trucks are kept on a flat surface 3.425 meters above the track. In this, truck drivers and cleaners travel in the cabin of their truck. In this they can sleep and eat comfortably.
