Often you must have seen that many people get up repeatedly at night to go to the toilet. Many times people think that they might have drunk too much water before sleeping, that is why this is happening. But every time the reason behind this is not just drinking too much water.
According to Dr. Pranal Sahare of Apollo Hospital, frequent urination at night can also be a sign of some other disease developing in the body. In medical language, this problem of frequent urination at night is called ‘Nocturia’.
If this problem has been bothering you for many days continuously, then do not take it lightly at all. Doctor Pranal Sahare of Apollo Hospital told the 5 big reasons behind this.
5 reasons for frequent urination at night-
1. Urine infection-
Urinary tract infection i.e. UTI is a major reason for this. When bacteria spread in our urinary tract, swelling and irritation occurs there. Because of this, there is a desire to go to the toilet again and again, even if there is not much urine in the stomach. Along with this, severe burning sensation or pain while urinating are also the main symptoms of UTI.
2. Diabetes-
If you suddenly have to go to the toilet very often at night, then it can be an early symptom of diabetes. When the blood sugar level increases in the body, our kidneys start working harder to remove that extra sugar from the body. Due to this, the patient feels thirsty again and again, drinks more water and has to run to the toilet again and again.

3. Enlargement of prostate-
This problem is usually seen in men above 50 years of age. There is a small gland in the body of men called prostate. When its size starts increasing with increasing age, it puts pressure on the urinary tract. Due to this pressure, the bladder i.e. urine bag is not able to empty completely in one go. This is the reason why one starts feeling the need to go to the toilet again after some time.
4. Overactive bladder-
In some people, the bladder i.e. the bag that collects urine is very active. This is called overactive bladder in medical terms. As soon as even a little urine accumulates in it, a message is immediately sent to the brain that one has to go to the toilet. In such a situation, a person finds it very difficult to control his desires and many times sleep gets disturbed at night.
5. kidney-
The main function of the kidney is to clean the dirt from our body and produce urine. If the kidney is not functioning properly or there is any weakness in it, then it is not able to control the flow of urine properly. Due to this, the problem of repeatedly going to the toilet at night increases considerably.
