Do not offer wrong things to Shivalinga

Special importance has been given to offering Belpatra, Ganga water, milk, curd, honey, white sandalwood and Dhatura in the worship of Lord Shiva. Whereas Tulsi leaves should not be offered on Shivalinga. Apart from this, Ketaki flower is also not offered to Lord Shiva. While offering Belpatra, keep in mind that it should be clean and untorn.

Do not offer stale flowers and dirty water

Always use only fresh flowers and clean water in puja. Offering stale flowers, withered leaves or dirty water to God is not considered auspicious. If Ganga water is not available then it is considered even better to use it.

Don’t forget to light the lamp during evening puja.

If you keep fast on Monday or do regular Shiva puja, then definitely light a lamp of ghee or sesame oil in front of Lord Shiva in the evening. After this, chant Shiv Chalisa, Mahamrityunjaya Mantra or ‘Om Namah Shivay’ mantra. Due to this, positive energy remains in the house and mental peace is experienced.

Do not rush during puja

According to religious tradition, complete parikrama of Shivalinga is not done. The drainage portion is not crossed and the parikrama is completed by returning from there. This is considered an important rule of Shiva worship.
