Delimitation Bill 2026: The issue of delimitation has once again come to the center of political discussion in the all-party meeting held before the monsoon session of Parliament. This time most of the attention was on DMK’s stance. The party has made it clear that no formal proposal has come from the government yet, hence the final decision will not be taken in haste. However, the party has definitely indicated its stand with some important conditions.
What is DMK’s new stand on delimitation?
After the all-party meeting, RSP MP N.K. Premachandran claimed that the DMK supported the delimitation bill. However, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva clarified this claim and said that the government has not yet presented any concrete proposal. According to him, the party wants complete clarity from the government. DMK says women’s reservation can be implemented immediately on the basis of existing Lok Sabha seats and there is no need to link it to the delimitation process.

Important conditions placed on South India and Lok Sabha seats
According to sources, the DMK has clarified that the new delimitation should not affect the political stake of the South Indian states. If this is likely to happen, then postponing the delimitation for another 25 years should also be considered. The party also wants that a clear provision for 50 percent increase in Lok Sabha seats should be included in the proposed bill. DMK believes that if this provision becomes part of the bill, it can take a positive stance.
Government has not yet tabled the bill, but political turmoil has increased
At present, the Central Government has not included the Delimitation Bill in the legislative list released for the monsoon session. However, government sources say that at the appropriate time the government will have enough support to pass the bill. Political analysts are also keeping an eye on the fact that in the last few months, DMK’s stance has appeared softer than before. Amidst the growing distance from Tamil Nadu politics and Congress, the party is now indicating that it will take its decision on this issue keeping in mind the interests and political representation of the state. The picture on this subject may become more clear after the official proposal of the government in the coming days.
