Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [भारत]July 13 (ANI): Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh on Monday said that the cyber team of the state STF has achieved a major success by arresting a wanted accused from Haryana in the Digital Arrest cyber fraud case. The accused was the beneficiary account holder who had received Rs 50 lakh from the proceeds of cyber fraud. Earlier, three other accused have already been arrested in this case.

This is how the fraud of Rs 1.47 crore was carried out

SSP, STF Uttarakhand said that a resident of Nainital had lodged a complaint in August 2025 at the cyber crime police station of Rudrapur regarding the digital arrest scam. Cyber ​​fraudsters allegedly posing as officers of the Maharashtra Cyber ​​Crime Unit falsely claimed that a bank account opened in the name of the victim had been used to launder money involving transactions worth Rs 60 crore. SSP Singh further said that under the pretext of online verification of the victim’s bank accounts, the fraudsters kept the victim under “digital arrest” through WhatsApp calls for 12 days and fraudulently induced the victim to transfer a total of Rs 1.47 crore to multiple bank accounts.

Arrest made on the basis of technical evidence

He said that during investigation it was found that out of the defrauded amount, Rs 50 lakh was transferred to the bank account of the arrested accused. The accused was absconding for a long time and was finally arrested in Haryana by the STF cyber team on the basis of technical analysis, digital evidence and continuous surveillance. The arrested accused has been identified as Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Pilkhani village near Ravidas temple under Shah police station in Ambala district of Haryana. (ANI)
