Did Shah Rukh Khan not like his iconic Rahul Raichand moment from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham?

One of Bollywood’s most memorable moments that is ingrained in every Dharma film fan’s memory is from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham , where Shah Rukh Khan’s character Rahul Raichand makes a grand entrance.

The scene where he steps out of a helicopter and is seen rushing towards his family mansion, while his mother (played by Jaya Bachchan) awaits with a traditional prayer thaali.

This sequence has become legendary among Indian movie enthusiasts and is frequently regarded as Shah Rukh Khan’s finest entrance in his film career. Interestingly though, despite its iconic status, the scene didn’t meet Shah Rukh Khan’s expectations.

What was it that Khan did not like?

Nikkhil Advani, who worked in the capacity of an assistant director on the film, said that Khan was initially excited about the concept. However, as stated on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast Cyrus Says when Advani appeared for the show, the superstar felt the final execution didn’t live up to his anticipation.

“When we told him that his entry in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is with the helicopter. He thought he is going to jump off the helicopter, while he just had to step down. The scene was more about Jaya Bachchan that she gets to know about the arrival of her son as soon as he touches the ground,” Advani said.

One of a kind: Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

When Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was released in 2001, it set a new benchmark as the most expensive Indian film production of its time. The movie achieved remarkable commercial success, surpassing Rs 100 crore in worldwide earnings and setting box office records.

The film boasted an ensemble cast of Bollywood’s finest talents, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, Jaya Bachchan, and Kareena Kapoor.

SRK’s films

Both Pathaan and Jawan crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark, while Dunki also performed well at the box office. While 2024 hasn’t seen any releases from the superstar, he’s reportedly preparing for his next project, King, scheduled for 2025. This upcoming film, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, is set to feature Shah Rukh sharing the screen with his daughter Suhana Khan for the first time.
