New Delhi [भारत]July 11 (ANI): A high security alert was briefly issued after a threat call to blow up the historic Red Fort in the national capital was received, officials said on Saturday. However, later this call turned out to be fake.
This threatening call was first received by the Mumbai Police Control Room. Understanding the seriousness of the threat to this iconic monument, Mumbai Police immediately passed this information to the Delhi Police Control Room.
As soon as the alert was received, the North District Police in Delhi swung into action and started an extensive security check and verification process.
Senior officials said, “A call was received in the Mumbai Police Control Room threatening to blow up the Red Fort in Delhi. This information was shared by the Mumbai Police Control Room with the Delhi Police Control Room. After this, this information was received by the North District Police and during investigation, this call was found to be fake.”
A detailed investigation is underway to trace the origin of the call and nab the caller.
ISRO also received similar threat
This incident comes shortly after a major fake threat targeting another high-security institute. Earlier on July 3, Bengaluru Police had detained a man from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh – who was stopped by Delhi Police – on charges of sending a fake bomb threat email to the headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
In that case, on July 2, a threatening email was received at Antriksh Bhawan, the ISRO headquarters on New BEL Road, warning of a major explosion. After a thorough investigation by police and bomb disposal squads, no suspicious object was found.
After technical analysis and digital tracking by a special investigation team, the sender was traced to Ghaziabad. During further interrogation and medical examination, the police found that the accused man was suffering from mental illness.
The electronic device used to send the threatening email has been seized, and a case registered under relevant sections. (ANI)
