Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu held a high-level meeting with the Commissioner and senior officers at the Police Headquarters. He instructed the police to be sensitive and pro-active towards the public. LG clearly said that the safety of women, children and elderly is the biggest priority and there will be no compromise on it.
New Delhi. Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Taranjit Singh Sandhu held a high-level review meeting with the Commissioner and senior officers at the police headquarters on Wednesday. During this, he stressed on maximum use of advanced technology to stop crime and gather intelligence. The LG said that policing should be pro-active, humane, visible and people-centric.
Special focus on crime control and increasing public confidence
This was the first visit of the Lieutenant Governor to the police headquarters. All the Special Police Commissioners, Joint Police Commissioners and Deputy Police Commissioners were present in this meeting. During the review, LG Sandhu emphasized that the job of the police should be to prevent crimes from happening. He said that officers will have to be easily available to the common people and will have to deal with them with sympathy and transparency, so that public confidence in law and order is strengthened.
Instructions for women safety, street crime prevention and hotspot monitoring
The Lieutenant Governor reiterated the administration’s commitment to maintain law and order. He talked about strictly curbing crime and declared that the safety of women, children and senior citizens will not be compromised under any circumstances. He instructed the police officers to identify crime prone hotspots in advance, prevent street crimes from happening and pay special attention to the safety of girl students in the entire capital.
Smart policing will be done with technologies like AI, drones and facial recognition
There was also talk on strengthening the city’s policing to deal with new threats. LG Sandhu directed Delhi Police to rapidly adopt modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), drones, facial recognition systems and social media monitoring tools for advanced intelligence and crime prevention. He also stressed on continuously improving the skills of police personnel, especially in investigating sensitive cases like cyber crime and POCSO Act.
Review on Delhi traffic management, strict instructions against rule breakers
The Lieutenant Governor also reviewed the issues of traffic management and urban mobility and asked for strict action against those violating traffic rules. He directed that the presence of traffic police should be clearly visible at the points with high traffic jams. Besides, instructions were also given to crack down on crimes like wrong-side driving, triple riding on two-wheelers and driving without helmet. He said that along with strictness, efforts should also be made to promote positive behavior among road users.
Promotion of community policing, initiative to connect RWAs and street vendors
Highlighting the importance of community policing, LG Sandhu asked the police force to actively engage Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Market Welfare Associations (MWAs) and street vendors. He said such cooperation will help in strengthening the intelligence network at the ground level and improving local security.
Emphasis on welfare of policemen, promotion and increasing women participation
Reviewing the administrative and welfare issues of the police force, the Lieutenant Governor underlined the importance of a transparent policy for welfare and transfer of police personnel, so as to prevent stagnation and favoritism. He directed to focus on timely promotions for lower rank personnel, increasing participation of women in the police force and utilizing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for the welfare of martyrs.
Instructions to make police colonies ‘zero-waste’, coordination will be done with MCD
In line with the civic and environmental goals of the city, he directed that the police residential colonies should also be converted into “zero-waste” colonies on the lines of the successful model of Navjeevan Vihar in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation (MCD).
LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu’s emphasis on accountability, better service delivery and safe Delhi
The Lieutenant Governor also stressed that along with strengthening the system, strict accountability will also have to be fixed. He said that citizens evaluate governance on the basis of visible results on the ground and improvement in service delivery. He assured the Delhi Police personnel of his full support and called upon them to work with renewed vigor and deliver concrete results, so that every citizen of the capital feels safer and better.
