Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has adopted a policy of ‘zero tolerance’ regarding waterlogging. He has directed the officials to repair the drainage system before the monsoon, increase coordination among civic agencies and complete the repair work in government schools.

Delhi is preparing for monsoon and meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has adopted a stance of ‘zero tolerance’ against waterlogging. Chairing a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister asked officials to ensure that drainage projects are completed on time, civic infrastructure is strengthened and repair work on government schools is completed at the earliest so that there is no problem during the rainy season.

CM Rekha Gupta instructed officials to stop waterlogging

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed all responsible departments to adopt proactive approach to deal with the problem of waterlogging in Delhi. He stressed that those places which are at high risk of water logging should be identified in advance, drains should be cleaned regularly and quick-response teams should be kept ready during the monsoon.

Focus on school infrastructure

Along with flood control measures, the Chief Minister also reviewed the ongoing repair work in government schools. He asked officials to complete all pending repairs in schools, improve classroom and toilet facilities and ensure that school buildings are fully prepared before the onset of heavy rains.

Asked to coordinate with civic departments

The Chief Minister stressed the need for strong coordination between the Public Works Department (PWD), Municipal Corporations, Irrigation and Flood Control Department and other civic agencies. He said that all the departments will have to work together so that the traffic flows smoothly and citizens do not face any problem due to waterlogging.

Public convenience is the first priority

Rekha Gupta reiterated that public safety and convenience is the first priority of the government. He directed officials to constantly take stock of the ground situation and take immediate action, if necessary, to ensure that Delhi is fully prepared for the monsoon season.
