The accident took place in a six-storey (ground floor + 5 floor) building in Gali No. 1 near ‘Naya Tara’ Apartment on Madhyam Marg. This area comes under Okhla Fire Station. The fire brigade received information about the fire at around 2:30 in the morning.

According to initial information, the fire started from vehicles parked in the ground floor parking of the building. Within no time, the fire engulfed three scooters, two motorcycles and a bicycle parked there. The poisonous smoke arising from the burning of vehicles quickly spread to the upper floors through the stairs. Due to this, people sleeping in their respective flats got trapped inside the building.

The building was in a very narrow street, which made it very difficult for the fire brigade vehicles to reach the spot. Despite this, Delhi Fire Service personnel carried out the rescue operation. People who were unable to come out due to smoke ran to the rooftop. Fire brigade personnel safely rescued many people including two girls from the roof. In total, the fire brigade directly evacuated 6 people from the building. At the same time, about 8 injured people have been sent to AIIMS Trauma Center by ambulance.

Firefighters completely brought the fire under control by around 3:45 am. The work of extinguishing the fire was completed by 4 am. Due to the fire, the lower three floors of the building have been heavily damaged. Delhi Police has started investigation in this matter. It is being ascertained whether the fire started due to short circuit or there was some other reason behind it.
