As soon as the Jharkhand and Maharashtra assembly elections are over, the Bharatiya Janata Party has now started preparations for the Delhi Assembly elections. In view of the preparations for Delhi Assembly elections, the party has started the process of selection of candidates. An average of three candidates have been selected for each of the total 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly.
A top BJP leader of the Delhi unit says that the party is likely to announce the names of candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections in mid-December. He said that before the candidate selection process, a survey has been conducted by the party.
The top leader says that on the basis of surveys, names of three most probable candidates have been decided for each of the 70 seats. The list of possible names has been sent to the top leadership of the party.
BJP is out of power in Delhi since 1998. Now the party is putting all its strength for the assembly elections to be held in February next year.
Three possible candidates decided for each seat
On the other hand, workers and party leaders are attending the Delhi BJP office every day with their biodata in the hope of getting a ticket for the assembly elections. A top leader of Delhi BJP said that the party has prepared a list of three possible candidates for each seat in the 70 assembly constituencies. Now the top national leaders of the party will take the final decision about the party candidates from this list.
He told that many meetings of BJP have been held regarding the elections. In these meetings, the party leaders had demanded that the names of the candidates for the elections should be announced soon, so that the candidates could get more time for campaigning. Keeping this in view, the party has accelerated the selection process of candidates for the elections.
In September, a two-day brainstorming meeting of the extended core committee of Delhi BJP was held in Ranthambore, Rajasthan. Top leaders of the party including BJP’s National General Secretary (Organization) BL Santosh were present in this meeting. In this meeting, a demand was raised to decide the names of the candidates soon.
Demand to declare candidate soon
In the meeting, some leaders had said that early distribution of tickets and selection of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections held in Delhi on May 25 was beneficial for the party. In this election the party had won all the seven seats of Delhi.
However, till now the Aam Aadmi Party has maintained its dominance in Delhi in the last few assembly elections. BJP got a chance to win only three seats in the year 2015 and eight seats in the 2020 assembly elections.
However, this time BJP leaders say that AAP has lost its credibility. The image of the Aam Aadmi Party has been tarnished due to issues like corruption allegations, poor condition of water supply, roads and public transport and pollution.
